KURT KILE SCORES FIRST CJ RACEWAY FEATURE WIN
Shottenkirk GM Giant Shelly Keltner sponsored trophies on Friday, July 13 which saw Daniel Keltner repeat his 4 cylinder feature win, Jeremy Tompkins make it five in a row, Brandon Jay and Brett Timmerman make return visits in the IMCA Stock and CJ Cruiser classes respectively, and Kurt Kile score his first late model feature win of 2007.
Matt Bodman had the point in the late model feature with Jerry Lauber in second and Kevin Kile in third with Kile taking second by the next lap. Many cars were on the move o lap 3 with Kevin Kile taking first from Bodman, Kurt Kile taking third from Lauber, and Ron Boyse taking fifth from Stan O'Brien. Three cautions in a row then followed with Bryan Kammer in turn 4, Matt Bodman coming out of turn 2, and Kevin Kile losing a driveshaft on the fronstretch. With Kevin Kile done for the night and Bodman going to the back on the restart, Kurt Kile restarted first with Jerry Lauber in second, but two laps later Boyse took second coming out of turn 2 and onto the backstretch. With just three laps to go, Tom Darbyshire came from his tenth place starting position to take second. Jeff Guengerich was on the move the last few laps of the race passing three cars in three laps to finish third. Kurt Kile picks up his first feature win in 2007 with Darbyshire taking second and Guengerich third.
Travis Yakle was out front in the 4 cylinder feature with Dan Keltner in second by lap 2. At the flagstand on lap 4 they were within a bumper with Keltner taking the lead coming out of turn 2. Keltner went on to score his second feature win in a row with Yakle taking second and Bryar Keltner finishing third. Sponsor Shottenkirk GM Giant put up an extra $25 to the feature winner and had a draw of $50, which went to Bryar Keltner.
In anticipation of the combination of the hobby stock and CJ Cruiser classes, they ran their feature together with two seperate winners for the final time. Jeremy Tompkins took the lead from Brian Tipps by lap 3 and went on to pick up his fifth feature win in a row. Tipps took second with Brian Holmes finishing third. Timmerman took the final CJ Cruiser win. The CJ Cruisers will become hobby stocks next week.
David Norton led the entire Mod Lite feature with Mike Cole in second until Jeff Norton overtook him on lap 4. David Norton goes on to take the checkers and brother Jeff Norton finishes second.
Todd Staley led the first lap of the IMCA feature before losing five spots and Travis Finke taking the lead, Cody Layman second, and Brandon Jay third. Jay moved into second when the caution was out for Staley in turn 4, which collected Darrin Ealey, Shelly Mizell, Aaron Summy, and Dave Hemsted. Ealey was done for the night. On the restart it's Finke, Jay, and Layman with Brad Ewart quickly taking third. On lap 11 Finke and Jay were side-by-side with Jay taking the lead on the next lap. Jay went on to score his second feature win of the year, Finke took second, with Ewart third.
Friday, July 20 trophies will be sponsored by Kile Motorsports.
