TAD PAYNE SCORES FIRST CJ RACEWAY FEATURE WIN
MidSeason Championships saw Wayne Noble, Jeremy Tompkins, Tad Payne, Justin Buccholz, Kevin Kile, and Brett Timmerman pick up feature wins in a night sponsored by Island Auto Salvage with money added to the purse. Noble tied Michael Frank II for the 4 cylinder point lead, Jeremy Tompkins took the hobby stock point lead breaking a tie with Brian Holmes, Tad Payne gained one point on IMCA point leader Aaron Summy, Kevin Kile widened his late model point lead, and Matt Gomez broke a tie taking the lead in the CJ Cruiser class.
Tad Payne was out front for the IMCA feature with Aaron Summy in second and Shelly Mizell in third with a battle going on between Brandon Jay and Dave Hemsted for the fourth place spot. Jay had it for the first six laps but then he went on the outside in turns 3 and 4 and Hemsted took the spot coming out of turn four. They would alternate the next two laps though with Jay back in fourth for one lap and then Hemsted taking it back for the rest of the race. Coming around for the white flag Mizell and Hemsted were side-by-side coming out of turn 4 with Hemsted taking third at the flagstand before Mizell's motor blew, pushing her back to fifth. Payne held off Summy for his first feature win of 2007, Summy took second and maintained the point lead, with Hemsted finishing third.
Wayne Noble led the entire 4 cylinder feature picking up his second feature win of the year. Michael Frank II followed in second trying for his first win of the year, but Noble was able to hold him off. Travis Yakle was in third for the first two laps when a caution was out for Todd Bass who went over in turn 2. On the restart, Bryar Keltner took the third place spot. Noble takes the win and ties Frank II for the point lead. Frank II takes second with Bryar Keltner finishing third.
On the first lap of the hobby stock feature Doug Eichelberger went over in turn 2, he was able to keep going, saving the caution, but was at the back of the pack. Brian Holmes led the first lap with Jeremy Tompkins in second when Tompkins went low in turns 3 and 4 with Holmes going high. Tompkins was able to make the pass stick at the flagstand. Tompkins went on to increase his lead, picking up his fifth feature win with Holmes taking second and Bill Faler rounding out the top 3. With the win, Tompkins takes the point lead.
Duane Rees dropped out after the first lap of the CJ Cruiser feature, leaving Brett Timmerman and Matt Gomez to battle it out. Timmerman took the lead and held off Gomez for his third feature win. Gomez has the point lead.
Paul Haulett led the pack in the mod-lite feature with Justin Buccholz in second during his first trip to the CJ Raceway. On lap 7 Buccholz took the lead going into turn 3. Two laps later the caution was out when Hallet spun in turns 1 and 2, sending him to the back of the pack and moving Troy Philpot into second before he spun in turn 2 on the next lap, pulling another caution. Buccholz goes on to pick up the win, Jeff Norton takes second, and Bobby Fox finishes third.
Kevin Kile seperated himself from the rest of the pack during the late model feature leading the entire race and picking up the feature win. Jay Chenoweth held the second place spot until the white flag when Ron Boyse took second at the flagstand. Kile takes the win with Boyse in second and Chenoweth in third. Boyse also took the Pepsi Hard Charger and the Pepsi Draw Award. Kile widens his point lead.
