FOR CJ RACEWAY
Car and Body Driver's Equipment Suspension, Transmission, and Rear End
Tires and Wheels Engine Claiming Rules and Procedures
Car and Body
1. Any 1960 or newer U.S. manufactured full body passenger car. No 4-wheel drives,
station wagons, Firebirds, Camaros, or convertibles.
2. Minimum wheel base allowed is 106 inches. Unibody cars may be tied together.
(Maximum 2X2 square tubing.) Tow hooks on front and rear mandatory.
3. Full perimeter 4 post roll cage with X brace in rear securely welded to frame must be
used. Three horizontal door bars on each side mandatory (four recommended). One
cross bar in top halo of roll cage mandatory. One vertical support bar (minimum 1_”
diameter tubing) from front drivers side halo of roll cage to the door bar is mandatory.
Minimum .095 tubing at least 1.667 outside diameter for roll cages & door bars. Petty bar
will be allowed. One loop in front of radiator of 1 1/2” tube maximum and one tube of 1
1/2” round tube may be used between front frame horns. Roll bar padding recommended
in driver’s compartment.
4. Car body and frames must be completely stock. No cutting, chopping, or shorting
allowed except cutting for placement of roll cage. Fenders may be trimmed for reasonable
tire clearance and stock hood may be gutted. The stock steel unaltered floor pan,
firewalls, trunk floor, trunk lid, and wheel wells must be retained! No interior enclosures
or covers. Front inner fenders may be removed. All stock windows must be left open and
no hood scoops allowed. Front windshield screen and three vertical 3/8” minimum bars
required. When using newer style front wheel drive car body, the floor pan and body must remain OEM and in stock location.
5. All glass, plastic, upholstery, lights, mirrors, molding, and chrome must be removed.
6. All doors must be welded shut. Hoods and trunk lids must be securely fastened. Rub
rails no bigger than 1”X1” or 1/4”X2” may be attached to the body from fender well to
fender well, and must be flush with the body with smooth edges and painted to match the
car.
7. Bumpers must be in stock location and corners must be rounded. Hydraulic bumpers
must be welded to brackets and brackets welded to the frame or chained with 3/16” chain
and 3/8” bolts. Hydraulic bumpers should be drilled to release oil.
8. All cars must have racing seat. Seat back must be securely fastened to roll cage cross
member.
9. Stock gas tank must be removed. A fuel cell is required and must be securely fastened.
There must be a firewall between driver and fuel tank. Fuel lines through driver’s
compartment must be in steel pipe or conduit. Pick-up must not be underneath fuel cell.
10. Drive shaft must be painted white. A safety loop is required and must be constructed
of 1/4”X2” steel strap no more than 6” behind front universal joint.
11. Batteries may be relocated, but must be securely fastened in a sealed container.
12. Weights must be painted white with car number on them and must be secured inside
trunk or inside the frame rails with two 1/2” bolts. Weight not allowed in driver’s
compartment. No sandbags or loose ballast permitted.
13. Spoilers, wings, skirts, air scoops, or anything that alters the stock appearance is not
allowed.
14. No computers allowed on car.
DRIVER’S EQUIPMENT
1. Snell 98 or newer helmet and full fire suit is required. Competition five point shoulder harness and lap belts are mandatory and must be securely fastened to the frame or roll cage. Fire extinguisher recommended.
2. Fire resistant gloves and shoes recommended. Window nets and neck braces required.
Kill switch clearly marked “ON” AND “OFF” is recommended.
3. Car must be clearly marked with contrasting number 24” high and 3” stripe width and
must have an 18” number on roof, car number must be 3 digits or less.
SUSPENSION, TRANSMISSION AND REAR END
1. All springs must be stock type for that make and model. Coil for coil spring cars, leafs
for leaf spring cars. After market springs and shocks allowed, but must be in stock
location. No adjustable spacers, screw jacks, or weight jacks allowed. No lumber or
chains allowed. No air shocks. One vertical shock per wheel. Maximum tube diameter
2.10”. All four brakes must lock up. No brakes shut-off devices allowed. No brake
bias proportioning valves allowed.
2. Nine-inch Ford allowed, but must be mounted like stock rear end for that make and
model. Swayaway axle allowed on the right side only. Disc brakes allowed on rear with
Ford nine inch, but must be stock components with OEM brake calipers. No after market
brake calipers allowed. Post-traction or locked rear ends are allowed.
3. Transmission must be OEM. Automatics must run operable torque converter.
Manuals must run stock clutch, pressure plates, and fly wheels only. Manuals must also
run an after market steel safety bell housing “scatter shield”. Scatter shields must have an
easily assessable 2” inspection hole to view clutch and flywheel. No cheater transmission
or couplers allowed. No aluminum fly wheels allowed. Transmissions and/or clutch
assemblies or torque converters may be protested for $50.00. Any driver finishing the
A-Main feature. If the protested transmission is legal the protested driver will receive the
money. If the protested transmission is illegal the protesting driver will receive the money
back and the protested driver is disqualified for the night with no points and no money.
4. No quick steer boxes allowed.
5. No aliminum after market power steering pumps allowed.
TIRES AND WHEELS
1. Tires must be DOT stock passenger tires or other DOT tire that does not exceed 8”
tread width. No recaps. No mud and snow tires. No studded tires, no shaving or
grooving allowed.
2. Only steel wheels allowed. Maximum of 8” wheel.
3. Right front wheel to be reinforced or spoke wheel, with larger stud and 1” minimum
lug nut required.
ENGINE
1. Engine must be absolutely stock for that make and model (GM to GM; Ford to Ford;
etc.) and must remain in stock location. All cars must have operable starter.
2. Only two barrell OEM external stock appearing carburetor only, no holleys, no dual
pumpers. Venturi may not exceed 1 3/8”. Carburetor maybe claimed for $50.00, no
exchange, refusal to sell will result in disqualifications for the night, no points and no
money. Adapter plate allowed, four-barrel manifolds allowed. No internal build up
allowed.
3. Cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds only. No center dump manifolds.
4. No headers, no zoomies, and no electrical fuel pumps.
5. Exhaust must go down, back and exist past the firewall under car.
CLAIMING RULES AND PROCEDURES
1. Cost of claim: $400.00 for engine - $25.00 for wrecker. $425.00 total or $100.00
exchange - $50.00 for wrecker, $50.00 to claimed car’s owner. (Seller’s choice).
2. Claim does not include - 1. Flywheel, 2. Clutch, 3. Pressure plate, 4. Bell Housing,
5. Exhaust manifold, 6. Carburetor, 7. Starter, 8. Motor mounts, 9. Sending units and
switches for oil pressure and water temperature, 10. Fan and pulleys, 11. Clutch ball, 12.
Clutch arm, 13. Throw out bearing, 14. Dip stick, 15. Water pump, 16. Fuel pump, 17.
Distributor, 18. Plug wires.
3. First four position finishers must report directly to claim area and are subject to engine
claim by any other driver finishing fifth on back in feature. Any driver lapped by the
fourth place car is not elgible to claim. Driver allowed one claim ONLY per event,
regardless of outcome of that claim. In case of multiple claims on the same engine, engine
will go to qualified finishing driver finishing farthest back.
4. Driver making claim must drive his racecar immediately after finish of feature, under its
own power, directly to claiming area. Driver must have the cash with him.
5. Claims must be made immediately following feature race, claimed engine will not be
started once claim is made, and claimed engine must be completely removed within one
hour after the last checkered flag falls.
6. Only the driver may claim engine and only the driver may agree to sell or refuse to sell
engine. First sell or no sell by the driver being claimed is binding.
7. Promoter may claim any engine finishing in the top ten immediately following feature.
Driver claim takes precedence over promoter claim.
8. Any driver found to be claiming an engine for anyone other than himself will lose all
track points for the season and will be suspended for 30 calendar days or until a $500.00
fine is paid to the speedway.
9. All claimed engines must be removed from car at the track; buyer must examine engine
before removal-once removal is started, sale is final.
10. No driver may claim unless he has competed at the track the two previous events.
(Claims is in effect on opening night for all eligible drivers. Driver must have been at track
on opening night to be eligible to claim 2nd night of season.) Driver must have competed
in 50% of previous events to be eligible to claim.
11. No one-driver may claim any other one driver more than once during current calendar
year or claim more than two engines during the calendar year.
12. Refusal to sell will result in disqualification, loss of money and trophy won that night,
all track points for the season and a $500.00 fine to be paid before being allowed to race
the remainder of the year.
13. Drivers are to be held accountable for any sabotage discovered while pulling the
engine. Any sabotage discovered will result in the driver losing all track points and being
assessed a $500.00 fine. The claim may be disallowed and the money returned to the
claimer.
14. Any driver using any device intended to deceive other drivers, including but not
limited to, device to squirt oil into or onto their engine to give the outward appearance of
a “blown” engine will forfeit all money earned that night. Driver will be subject to a fine
equal to amount of prize money forfeited.
TOW HOOKS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
Any changes or exceptions to these rules will be up to the track officials and will take
precedence over printed rules.
